A critical component of Work Permit training involves recognizing and using the right type of permit for the task. Not all hazardous activities carry the same risks, so the system is divided into categories.
Hot Work Permits
These are used when a task could generate sparks or open flames, such as welding or cutting.
Confined Space Entry Permits
When entering tanks, tunnels, or any space with limited airflow, this permit ensures that all necessary precautions are followed.
Electrical Work Permits
These are required for any job involving live wires or electrical panels, helping protect workers from shock or arc flash.
Working at Heights Permits
Any task done above a certain height must be approved through a specific permit that includes fall protection measures.
Excavation or Ground Disturbance Permits
Used when digging or disturbing soil, especially where underground utilities might be present.
Each permit type includes unique safety checklists, and all are thoroughly reviewed during training.
